Biography

Frederik Næblerød (b. 1988, Copenhagen) is a Danish artist whose practice explores what it means to be human, delving into themes of survival, vulnerability, and transformation. Working across painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, and large-scale installations, he constructs visceral, immersive worlds where material, gesture, and emotion collide. His works navigate the fragile balance between chaos and control, spontaneity and deliberation, the grotesque and the beautiful, confronting viewers with a raw and complex understanding of human existence.

Næblerød draws inspiration from psychological and physical terrains shaped by encounters with people, places, and situations marked by tension and contrast. His figures emerge like restless spirits, distorted, humorous, and haunting, embodying the contradictions and unpredictability of human nature. Every mark signals a process that is both intuitive and rigorous, charged with emotional urgency and raw physicality. His early years in Copenhagen’s graffiti scene still shape the gestural force of his work. His studio functions as a site of excavation, where materials are pushed to their limits and the drama of human complexity is laid bare.

Næblerød holds an MFA from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, and has exhibited in Denmark and internationally, with recent solo exhibitions at ARKEN Museum of Contemporary Art, Gl. Holtegaard, Vejle Kunstmuseum and Horsens Art Museum. His works are included in public and private collections including the Danish Arts Foundation, Ny Carlsberg Foundation, Horsens Art Museum, Vejle Art Museum, Kastrupgårdsamlingen, Skovgaard Museum, and Museum Jorn. He lives and works in Copenhagen.
