Frederik Næblerød (b. 1988) works across painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, and large-scale installations, creating a visceral, immersive world where material, gesture, and emotion collide. His practice engages with questions of survival, transformation, and the human condition, exploring tensions between chaos and control, spontaneity and deliberation, the grotesque and the beautiful.
Næblerød draws endless inspiration from the physical and psychological landscapes he encounters, shaped by people, places, and experiences marked by contrast. His figures and forms emerge from layers of paint and clay like restless spirits, distorted, humorous, and haunting. Every mark, scratch, and stain embodies a process that is both intuitive and rigorous, charged with emotion and physical intensity. His studio becomes a stage for psychological excavation, a space where materials are pushed to their limits, experiments unfold, and the human condition is laid bare.
He graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2018, after first emerging from Copenhagen’s graffiti scene, an influence still visible in the immediacy and scale of his work. He has exhibited widely across Denmark and internationally, with recent solo exhibitions at ARKEN Museum of Contemporary Art, Gl. Holtegaard and Horsens Art Museum. His works are represented in collections including the Danish Arts Foundation, Ny Carlsberg Foundation, Horsens Art Museum, Vejle Art Museum, Kastrupgårdsamlingen, Skovgaard Museum, and Museum Jorn.
He lives and works in Copenhagen.
